Whether your child is a fan of the new Clone Wars animated film or the original trilogy, this light saber, with its light up blade and electronic sounds, is sure to be a hit. Its sturdy plastic components in gray, black, and gold, three colored crystals, and telescoping blade can be combined in over 1000 different ways to create a customized battle weapon. And since part of the fun is in thinking up ways to combine the pieces into a customized weapon, there's no time-consuming adult setup. You'll need a Philips head screwdriver to insert three AA batteries (not included), and you may want to help young users put the color crystals in the first time around, so they know how to change them later on. One of this light saber's top features is the way it emits different sounds along with a different color light inside the clear plastic blade depending on what Ilum crystal or crystals are inserted in the handle. Choose the classic Jedi green, blue, Sith red, or combine crystals to achieve an effect like the violet light saber Mace Windu uses. Star Wars fans will immediately recognize the powerful humming noise that indicates a light saber ready for combat. And the variety of clashing sounds that the unit makes when the blade comes in contact with any sturdy obstruction is sure to thrill. While too much rough play can take a toll on any toy, the construction behind this light saber seems sturdy and well thought out. Overall, we had loads of fun creating a custom look, practicing crafty moves, and fighting off imaginary enemies with this light saber. Since the colored blade effect is achieved by projecting light into the clear plastic blade, playing with this light saber in a dark or dimly lit room provides extra drama and an increased dose of fun. There are a lot of cool light saber combinations. Great light and sound effects. Way better than any of the plastic light sabers at the toy stores. My 6 year old loves it!

My boys really enjoyed making different light sabers and "becoming" varying characters. The parts were fairly easy to put together but would be best for a child 6 or older. The red crystal got lost on the second day. However, without any crystals, the light saber will change color each time the child turns it off and on again. So, it wasn't a total loss. Not the best for a child who loses things easily...

We bought this for my son who is 5 and is a huge Star Wars fan. This was the at the top of his Christmas list. He loves it and carries it everywhere. It lights up and makes slashing noises. He is able to build different style light sabers easily, he has no problem changing the pieces around by himself. Overall although there is little educational value it is a fun toy that my son has spent hours playing pretend Jedi and Sith with. It seems to be very durable as well. It is his favorite toy. I would highly recomend it for your little Star Wars fans!

We bought this for my son for Christmas. He played with it right away. He is 8 years old and really into Star Wars Clone Wars. It was a bit difficult to figure out and we tried to keep the box for storage, but it got beaten up quickly. He still plays with it. I would say a storage bag would be a great addition for the toy. Also a bit difficult to figure out how to put together. Other than that, would buy it again.

I bought this for both my 5-year old nephew and my 6-year old son and they both are enjoying it very much. My son says it's "awesome!" We have only put it together once so far and it appears as though it may be too troublesome to take it apart and make it a new way so we are leaving it the way it was first put together. The kids like the way it makes sounds and lights up in different colors. It was easy to assemble but we did forget that it needed batteries. A great toy for any Star Wars lover!
