Editorial Review With all the high-tech electronic toys available for kids today, it would seem that the basics would be long forgotten. However, often the classic toys are the ones children want to play with the most. This classic block set includes 50 solid wood 1-inch-square blocks that are ideal for stacking or building. Two sides of each block feature carved letters or numbers in bright primary colors for teaching the alphabet or counting during play. The other four sides feature stamped letters, numbers, or pictures for additional practice in identification. Blocks come in a hard plastic storage case with a cord handle for easily transporting to Grandma's house. This block set will most likely become the most used toy in the playroom. --Cristina Vaamonde
Product Description Stack, spell and count with these 50 colorful blocks, each featuring a variety of pictures, letters and numbers. Comes in a see-through storage box with handy carrying handle. Measures 6"L x 6.5"W x 3'D.

JUST What I was Hoping for! November 11, 2008 K. Davis (Oklahoma City, OK USA) I received the 50 blocks today in a clear plastic package with a cloth bag included. The blocks are small-ish, at 1 1/4 inches, but they are not tiny. Because the colors and letters are bold, they are easy to read. I wanted some blocks to put around the house, especially with Christmas decorations, to spell some words. These will be great. They will especially be great because I have some blocks that are I don't know how old, exactly the same size and design, that are holding up perfectly. I have had the word "Joy" in three of these blocks sitting on a shelf in my study underneath a Precious Moments baby Jesus in a manger--for years! Recently I rinsed all the pieces in plain water, and they came out great. This is a great set of blocks, for a great price. I am very pleased!
Melissa & Doug toys made in China November 2, 2008 M. Cramer (San Diego, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These blocks are colorful and have interesting pictures on the sides without letters. The corners are a little sharp when you or your little one steps on them, so keep them out from under your feet. I was surprised to find a big styrofoam filler in the bottom of the package, which I suppose is there to make an appearance of more blocks. I think using styrofoam for that purpose is pretty irresponsible, as it will now be in a landfill until the end of time, not to mention the dangerous chemicals required to make it in the first place. However, my main disappointment with Melissa & Doug toys is that they are made in China. I can't imagine why a company would outsource jobs to China to make simple wooden toys when we have plenty of hard working people and plenty of lumber here. I won't be buying holiday gifts from China this year, so I won't be buying any more Melissa & Doug.
Good but not great!! October 30, 2008 Michelle Barber My Son who is now 14 months, got this for his 1st birthday. He was bit young for it then but is now more interested in the blocks and the animals on it and can recoginze a few of them. He likes me to build towers which he then proceeds to knock over. He also likes to hide the blocks under whatever he can find. Which makes keeping all the pieces together a challenge. The bag it comes with for storage is realy not that great. It can't fit all the blocks, unless you pack them very nice and neatly, and who has the time for that.
safe October 23, 2008 R. Timmens (Europe) My daughter enjoys playing with the blocks that are the right size for her little hands and I love that they are safe to play with.
the size is way too small October 14, 2008 Pammy (Addison, IL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If I would have known (I'm new to this on line shopping) that these were only an inch in diameter i would have never gotten them. How can you stack them which is what my purpose was in buying them? Only after I received them did I want to complain and here I am, I also am returning them unopened.
