Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Preferred Choice Creative Child Magazine, 2004. Dr. Toy 100 Best Toys, 2004. Pile these colorful blocks and be amazed! Thanks to their optical effects these beautiful blocks will fascinate children. These blocks transform a child's first buildings into authentic little artifacts of many shapes and colors. Sweet ringing little bell provides incidental music. A fun companion to HABA building blocks. For ages 1+.

5 out of 5 stars These blocks are, indeed, fantastic.   September 10, 2008

At six months she's a bit younger than the recommended age, but our daughter loves these blocks. We started with Haba's 'first blocks' set with her, which she also enjoyed. When we added these Fantasy Blocks, which are similar to the starters but with patterns and different shapes, it blew her mind. (Especially the way the conical one moves differently than the square ones do.) She loves them.

I would agree with some of the other reviewers that some of these blocks are small enough to fit inside your child's mouth, but I think they're far too large for them to actually choke on the block. I'm not worried about them. Then again, she plays with them at the dinner table with us, so she's really never played with them out of my sight, nor have I seen her shove the entire block in her mouth. Perhaps that will come when she's a few months older. Regardless, it would be simple enough to reserve those 3 blocks from the set until your child is old enough to know better.

A side benefit is that this set does match the starter set, so they all will work well together color-wise when she gets old enough to actually start building things. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Love the blocks but beware of smaller pieces   July 3, 2008

My son loves the blocks. The look like no other blocks and he gets a kick out of the block with the bell inside and the clear plastic blocks that look like ice cubes. To my horror, he can put a few of the smaller ones entirely into his mouth so I took them away so he can play with when he's older. Watch out for this if you buy these wonderful blocks.

5 out of 5 stars Best blocks EVER!!   June 6, 2008
Holly Lewis (Medina, OH USA)
My son got these off his wishlist for his 1st birthday and has loved them ever since! Bold colors, fantastic shapes and quirky/cool special touches. The block with a bell inside is a hit! Haba makes wonderful toys and this is no exception.

5 out of 5 stars Some blocks too small for under three child   May 8, 2008

Gorgeous blocks which look great even after our puppy got ahold of them. However, some of the blocks (the half rounds and the dome shaped ones) are too small for my 17 month old. She put them right in her mouth and the entire block fit right in there (and she is petite!). Also for breastfeeding moms, the dome shaped ones look awfully like breasts so the little ones are really drawn to putting them in their mouths (no kidding). Still, we just put away the domes and the half rounds and still are left with a great assortment of gorgeously colored durable SAFE blocks from a reliable European manufacturer. The best assortment we've seen including beautiful graphics, holographic details, some prismlike blocks, columns, blocks with holes with columns, a block with a bell, an arch and two shaped like mini staircases. Even the 11 year old is helping out with design for the toddler! Just put away the smaller blocks until your child is old enough not to put them in his/her mouth.

These blocks are so much fun - and in great, bright colors and shapes. Our 1 year old daughter received them for Christmas and loves to have us build them up, so she can knock them down. Great set of starter blocks - can't wait to get more Haba blocks to add to them.
